Curtains are used widely throughout the house and a bathroom is no exception to it. But while adding curtains in bathroom decor designers recommend going subtle with them.
Let’s take a deep look into the various aspects of using curtains in a bathroom.
The main focus point of a bathroom is the vanity. Using curtains of different colors in bathroom which does not match or look harmonious with one another can divert the focus from vanity and can make the bathroom appear like a colorful mess. The curtain for shower area and window thus should blend with each other as well as with the paint color of bathroom.
How to match shower curtains with window curtains?
There are multiple ways of matching shower curtains and window curtains.
USING THE SAME CURTAIN
The easiest way to match shower curtains with window curtain in the bathroom is to simply use the exact same curtain but of a smaller size on the window that is used on the shower area.
Sometimes, using different colors of curtains in bathroom causes one color to match properly with every other thing in bathroom while the other color looks completely alien.
This can be easily avoided if same curtain design and color is used everywhere in the bathroom.
USING THE WINDOW CURTAIN OF EITHER ONE OF THE COLOR OF SHOWER CURTAIN
This method is exceptionally good for matching window curtains with those shower areas in which curtain with more than one color is used. For example, the most of shower curtain can be of white color with light gray line at the bottom.
For matching such a curtain simply, add a light gray curtain on the window. This curtain coordinates with the shower curtain as both share one same element i.e the light gray color.
What material of curtain for shower and window in bathroom?
Shower area is a place where curtains are most susceptible to water splashes on a regular basis. If material like fabric is used for shower curtains then water splashes can overtime make the curtain loose and dull.
Synthetic materials for curtains like vinyl, polyester acrylic, etc are best when it comes to water resistance.
Now the material for window curtain should also be synthetic. That’s because bathroom is a place where humidity and moisture levels are high all over.
Even though a window might be away from the shower area such that water splashes do not reach the window curtain but still the residual moisture in the bathroom can still get absorbed by the natural fiber of the curtains.
Therefore, all curtains used in a bathroom either at shower area or at window should be made from the same material i.e synthetic.
Can semi-synthetic curtains be used near shower or near window?
The short answer is just avoid using all forms of semi-synthetic curtains to be used anywhere in bathroom because just like curtains with natural fibres, semi synthetic curtains also have good affinity for moisture.
Semi synthetic curtains may sound like artificial fibres but they are all sourced from plants. upon multiple chemical treatments and processing activities the wood is converted into finished fibre. The fibre so produced is a very good absorber of moisture.
Should there be pattern on shower curtain or window curtain?
Generally, shower curtain can have patterns all over and so does the curtain on the window. As a matter of fact a patterned curtain can help to add a unique style to a boring looking bathroom.
In modern bathrooms, however, where tiles are the main highlight of the bathroom, using plain curtains or curtain with minimal patterns is a much better option to be used in such situations.
That’s because there is already a pattern on the floor and on the walls where marble is used. Installing a designer curtain with patterns all over can look a little bit overdone when it comes to decor.
To balance the other design elements of the bathroom with certain patterns on them, plain curtains should be preferred otherwise curtains with patterns can be used.
Does the size of curtain matters for it to have pattern or not?
The answer is no. The size of the curtain have nothing to do with whether that curtain should have patterns or be plain. Compared to a shower area curtain, a window curtain is smaller in size.
But having one curtain with patterns and another curtain without pattern in a bathroom might not look good all together. Therefore, for a balanced look of shower curtain and window curtain both these curtains should be patterned or plain depending on the theme of the bathroom as already discussed above.
Should the rod for shower and window curtains match?
Generally speaking, using the same type of rod for hanging curtains in bathroom at different location like shower area and near the windows is a better practice than using different types of rods.
The thickness of the rod can vary but the primary color of the curtain rod should be the same for every location in the bathroom.
What color should the curtain rod be depends over the color of the bathroom hardware and faucets.
If all the faucets in the bathroom are of same chrome color then the rods on the curtain should also be in chrome color and similarly, if the faucets are of dark color like black then accordingly the curtain rod also needs to be of black color.
The rods of curtain do not need to match with the curtain itself as while viewing curtains its rods are not at focus.
Curtain brackets to match or not?
If there are brackets on the curtain near shower and on the window curtain then the breakets should be similar.
Window curtains specifically require brackets and are most easily seen compared to shower area curtain brackets which might remain hidden.
If all the other aspects of using curtains in bathroom is done correctly but only the brackets are mismatched then also the overall look of the bathroom looks unsymmetrical.
