A few months back i got a new wardrobe for my bedroom and i was looking for the perfect place to place it the room. Then i found a place near window which was just the right size for my wardrobe. The window happened to be just in front of the wardrobe.
If the window is 24 inches wide and a wardrobe is placed just opposite to window then the light from window will get blocked when somebody uses a wardrobe.
Thus it is only if the horizontal length of the window is 40″ and above a wardrobe can be placed directly in front facing the window. Even if someone stands between wardrobe and window, due to the large size of window minimal shadows will be formed.
From this, it is clear that a wardrobe can not be placed directly opposite to a small size window but it sure can be placed sidewards.
Can wardrobe without doors be put in front of window?
When a wardrobe without doors is placed in front of window, clothes are exposed to sunlight for prolonged durations on a daily basis. This can result in fading out of the colors of clothes.
Hence, a wardrobe without doors should not be placed in front of window.
What size wardrobe can be put in front of window?

The smaller is the length of window, the smaller should be the size of wardrobe t the placed in front of it or at sidewards to window.
Perpendicular placement of wardrobe with small window allows for a larger size wardrobe to be installed with it.
However, when placed in front of the window the size of wardrobe must be such that the entire front facet of it can be lit with light.Therefore, the size of wardrobe is comparatively smaller in frontal placement with window than in a perpendicular placement.
Using an oversize wardrobe with a small window with frontal placement can create unevern bright and dark spots over the wardrobe.

How much gap between wardrobe and window ?
During rain, there is chance of water leaking from window into the closet. Therefore to avoid water damage on wardrobe and clothes, wardrobe that is perpendicular to the window should be placed at a gap of 12″ from the window.
Placing the wardrobe any further from 12″ can lead to less amount of light to fall over the wardrobe.
In a large room, if empty space is left behind wardrobe after placing it at a gap of 12″ from the window then placing wardrobe perpendicular to window should be avoided rather the wardrobe should be placed in a way in which space inside a room is used efficiently.
As far as illuminating the wardrobe is concerned especially during day when placed away from window, light fixtures like recessed lights can be used on the ceiling at a gap of 16″ from the wardrobe door.
Where should the wardrobe be placed in a room with small window?
To get proper lighting, always place the wardrobe perpendicular to the window when the size of the window is 32” or less.
Doing so the shadows that are formed while standing in front of the window near wardrobe does not form over the wardrobe but are formed on the sideward wall.
Also the light spread on the wardrobe by placing it perpendicular to the window illuminates the entire wardrobe.
Where to place wardrobe if there is no space around window for adding furniture ?
Often times, compact bedrooms have this situation in which the space is limited in front of window for any furniture to be added. In such a situation always try to place a small size wardrobe parallel to the bed.
Further more, if there is no space around bed as well for a wardrobe then wardrobe alternatives like a small dresser can be used. Gue to small size of a dresser, it can placed even at compact places.
Additonally, bed with storage space underneath along with a nightstand with storage space should be preferred for strong the clothes.
By using the same amount of space, two different requirements can be met easily.
Where to place a wardrobe in a room with multiple windows ?
If there are multiple windows in a room then the room is already getting plenty of natural lighting. In such a room, the wardrobe can be placed such that the front side of wardrobe always faces the window.
A room with multiple windows provides a lighting setting such that even if a person stands in front of the wardrobe, the shadows formed are immediately cancelled by light entering from the other window.
As a result the shadows are barely visible.
It should be noted that in a room with multiple windows there may be space between two windows. That empty space can be excellent for placing a wardrobe since the room is already getting plenty of natural lighting the light will reflect from the walls can will fall over the closet as well.
Can a wardrobe be placed next to a window ?
If there is only one small window in the entire room then it is not advised to place a wardrobe just next to a window simply because the light does not fall properly upon the wardrobe.
If however, there are light fixtures present to supplement the lighting then a wardrobe can be placed next to a window.
In some compact rooms. arranging the wardrobe next to a window may be the only possible placement for the wardrobe. Just add a 500 lumens bright light source on the ceiling above wardrobe to get the required lighting which window couldn’t provide.
From lighting perspective, wardrobe next to small window can create shadows on the room during day time. As there is only one side from which light is entering in side the room.
Can you put artwork in front of window ?
With the exception of oil paintings, and light sensitive art, all the other artworks can be hanged on wall in front of window.
Throughout day, the color of light changes slightly and this makes the artwork to look different to what it actually is.
Different perspective of same art keeps the excitement for the art up. As one doesn’t get bored of the art easily.

Place wardrobes in front of window such that the front side of wardrobe faces the window.
Appropriate size of window for a wardrobe to be placed in front of it is 40″ and above.
In compact rooms, under bed storage, dressers can be used as a good alternative to wardrobe to save space around window.
